A tool retainer has an important job: keeping your point or chisel in the hammer. A Tool retainer must be heat-treated properly, or it can break. Oftentimes, your tool retainer does not need to be replaced unless you are blank-firing the tool. We recommend you keep this to a minimum to reduce repair costs. Misusing the breaker by blank-firing can damage tools, tool retainers, bushings, and other components.
